Dude! What did ya like about it? I loved that he was able to "make fun" of the stereotypes (negative) of his own culture...but what I really liked was how he handled feeling like he was not a part of EITHER culture - his own reservation or the "white-bread" school he hitch-hiked to every day (since his dad drank all the gas money....great comic!). I also love how he draws throughout the book - while the book made me laugh aloud a couple of times, it's actually a really sad statement on our culture: the idea that the country was based on an almost genocidal wipe-out of the indigineous peoples, and then the treatment of Native Americans after (up and through present time). Not only does this book address "growing pangs" and a societal stereotype brought to its (hilarious) edge - it captures the voice of the main character beautifully - and we find a way to walk in both (or between) cultures with him...
So i have started to read this book and i torally love it. It is so funny in the beganing. i love the way he uses his drawings to show us what he is talking about.
The Absolutely true Diary of a Part-time Indian is one of the best book of all time. I love the way his parents look in that drawing. I think in the ending was the best. This book hard me cracking up with all these sterotypes. The drawing were created. This book is so good that I think the intire school sould read this book. This book make me wanty to be a Indian
I agree about the stereotypes - and the drawings! I can't draw, so I always appreciate anyone who can :). I am glad y'all chose this for the "humor" book - and especially glad ACE hoooked us up with the way cool copy of the book! I love that it's in its own little box too. AND in color!!! woohoo.
